You can visualise and plan events of your environment using the Environments Timeline that is directly accessible from the main menu or from the environment details panel.

Type of Events

There 2 types of environment events :

  1. Planned events grouped into Calendars : events that are created manually by JIRA users. You add events to book environments during a period of time.
  2. Logs : read-only events (ex: deployment, status changes) that have been triggered

Type of Calendars

  1. Standard Calendars are used to create and manage Planned Events
  2. Issue Calendars (since version 4.6) are used to display any kind of JIRA issues on the Environments Timeline

Create Standard Calendars

If you have the permission “Manage events and calendars”, you can add as many calendars as you want to group/organize your events the way you want. You can define properties of your calendar like color, name, default planned status,…

  1. Go to “Add Calendar” menu on the top right of the Timeline
  2.  Click on “Create calendar”
  3. Follow instructions displayed on the popup in order to create your new calendar

Create an Issue Calendar (since version 4.6)

  1. Go to “Add Calendar” menu on the top right of the Timeline
  2.  Click on “Create issue calendar”
  3. Set the name and choose a color for your new calendar
  4. Open the “Events” tab and choose which Issues you want to make appear on the timeline. You can simply choose a Project, an existing Filter or write your own JQL query. Select then the fields of your issues to use to display your issue on the timeline.
  5.  Click on “Save”
  6. You can now visualise the issues that you have selected in step 4 on your Timeline

 


Toggle Visibility of a Calendar

When you click on a calendar, you will toggle the visibility of the events of the calendar on the timeline.

Planned Events

If you have the permission “Manage events and calendars”, you can create a new events in different ways:

  1. use the button “Add Event” (on top right)
  2. double-click on en empty space on the timeline
  3. drag and drop a calendar into to the timeline

You can also select, resize and move each planned event using your mouse directly in the timeline.

To edit a Planned Event just double click on it.

To delete a Planned Event you have to move your mouse onto an event and click on “delete” action, it will open the Planned Event Dialog :

Use this dialog to move an event to another calendar, to change the duration, the name or the description of a Planned Event. You can also planned utilisation of different environments using the Planned Environments section :

For each planned environment, you can set a planned version and a planned status. For example, if you plan a deployment of version 3.4-beta, you may want to set the planed status of this environment to “Unavailable” (if the deployment causes the environment to be unavailable). If you plan a “User Acceptance” test session, you may want to set the desired status to “Available”.


Deployment logs

To edit the deployment history, you can drag and drop the logs “deployed versions” on the timeline.

Export Environment Events to Outlook, Gmail, iCalendar, iOS Calendar …

The Planned Events and the Logs of your environments can be exported using “ics” format. Click on “Export Events” button (top right) to create or edit an existing ics export/feed.

You can create as many export as you want. It will allow you to visualise environment events into your favourite calendar app without having to connect to JIRA. You can also visualise environment events in Confluence using “Team Calendar”.
